In bed with Jennifer Chong

If you’ve ever scrolled through Instagram and stopped because a flatlay was so perfect or the lighting was magical, you’ve probably landed on creative guru, Jennifer Chong. We’ve followed her Instagram @Jennifer__Chong for ages now, and she’s our go-to for visual inspiration and knows how to create scroll-stopping images. We were lucky enough to speak with Jennifer on all things sleep, cosy mornings and her Instagram.

Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m just your everyday Sydney girl, trying to reach my goals. Almost two years ago, I was in a job that was quite unfulfilling and it really did make me question what I was doing with my life. The reality, at the time, was nothing. It was then that I decided that I would rekindle my love for sharing beautiful clothing that I had collected throughout the years. I had initially created a blog way back when but I never really stuck with it until now. Nowadays, I work as an Analyst by day and at every other time, I try to get my creative juices flowing and the result is the imagery you see on my blog and Instagram.

What does your perfect morning look like?

A perfect morning to me is a cup of coffee (instant or barista-made, I’m really not fussed), sitting on the beach and watching the sunrise.

What’s your number one sleep tip?

Don’t start playing on your phone right before sleep – it’s a trap! I do this all the time and end up sleeping an hour later than I planned, leaving me feeling extremely drowsy the next day. But, if you are going to do it, at least turn your Night Shift on so you don’t do so much damage to your eyes.

How do you wind down in the evening?

A cup of tea while watching a bit of telly is always a great way to unwind for me.

How has Koala changed your sleeping habits?

We did upgrade to a king bed so now my partner sleeps so far away from me! But in all seriousness, it has really improved my quality of sleep. I’ve always needed a firmer mattress for my lower back issues and this is just that.

Where do you find inspiration for your IG photos?

Instagram itself is a wonderful source of inspiration. There are such talented creatives out there which you would have never known about without social media. Personally, I get inspiration from all over. With outfits, I look to the runway and I love seeing the street style photos during fashion weeks around the world. But, at the end of the day, I just put together what I would like wear. With flatlays, I really get influenced with colours (and my OCD).

Three Netflix series you’re addicted to at the moment?

Sense 8 (but they cancelled it! *sob*)
Orange is the New Black
Orphan Black
I could go on …

What’s next for Tonight We Dream?

I’m always looking for new ideas to really push myself to stand out more from the crowd. It’s getting harder and harder these days to make your mark with all these super talented creatives popping up everywhere. It’s also a balancing act with my career as both are equally important to me. However, my mantra is to just take it as it comes. I don’t want to force anything as I don’t want there to come a time where I stop enjoying what I’m doing. Because that’s what it’s all about isn’t it? Doing things because they make you happy and not because they make you money.
