It may be the last month of winter, but that doesn’t mean those snuggly Netflix nights need to disappear. We’ve done the hard yards for you and trawled through the new shows that are on or coming to Netflix, and chosen our favourites for August. Grab the popcorn, curl up on your koala and enjoy your down time.
Stranger Things: If you’re even mildly interested in horror, thriller or mystery shows, then this is the series for you. Set in the 1980s with some serious fashion throwbacks, this original Netflix drama is set in a small Indiana town where a local boy goes missing. In their quest to find him, his family and friends unravel extraordinary mysteries that involve secret government experiments and creepy alternate dimensions.
Bojack Horeseman: Light hearted and totally inappropriate, Bojack Horseman is back for a third season. Based on the life of a has-been 90’s sitcom star, the show focuses on the hilarious life of Bojack, and documents how he tries to continually get his life back on track. Plenty of sex, drugs and alcohol involved… this is an adults only animated series!
The Get Down: Fan of musicals? You’ll love this one. Not a fan of musicals? You’ll still probably love it. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the story focuses on a group of teenagers who are trying to make it big in the music industry. The first six episodes will drop in August, with the second part coming a little later. Having only six episodes makes this super bingeable, so set aside a night to hunker down and consume all of part one.
Billy Madison: It’s one of the classics you’ve probably seen a million times, and now thanks to Netflix you’ll watch it a million times more. If you’ve been living under a rock and have never seen this cult classic, get it on NOW. Inappropriate for kids but for perfect for ‘big’ kids, this comedic take on going back to school with Adam Sandler will have you in tears.
Pretty Woman: Trying to impress your latest Tinder date? Don’t fear, Pretty Woman is here. A favourite with the gals, this chick flick has a soundtrack that you’ll never forget (seriously, ever). A modern update on Cinderella, it takes a look at when a businessman & hooker fall in love and how their worlds combine. Not convinced? The main characters are played by Richard Gere & Julia Roberts… need we say more?
Sweet dreams, koalas.
