Bedroom hacks: how to beat the heat this Aussie summer

If there’s one thing that Aussies know well, it’s the HEAT. The scorching, searing heat that manages to sneak into every crack, corner, and cranny anywhere and everywhere during those hot summer months. The Koala mattress has been designed specifically to deal with the heat – that’s why we don’t use latex or memory foam… but more on that later.

If you’re struggling with the heat at the moment, rest assured you’re not the only one. Don’t have air con? No worries, we’ve got you covered. Here are just a few ways you can prepare your bedroom for the Aussie Summer:

Prepare the house

If the whole house/unit/apartment has been exposed to the warm weather, it’s going to be way more difficult to remove the heat. Throughout the day, ensure all curtains are closed, avoid using the stove or oven on particularly hot evenings and keep lights to a minimum. The darker it is, the cooler it will be.

Invest in a fan

You’ve probably got a cheapie, but a decent fan can be a lifesaver. If you’re willing to get creative, look back to what people did before air conditioners were around. Position your fan in front of your bed, fill a pan with ice and enjoy the icy cool breeze. DIY air con anyone?

Dress (or undress) for the heat

If you’re going to bed in a silk teddy, it’s time to reconsider your pyjama choice. Ditch the satin, silk or polyester and go for cotton. It’s breathable and promotes ventilation and airflow onto your body. Prefer the controversial no clothing option? Go for it – we won’t tell anyone.

Get down low

Have you been considering a new bed base or none at all? It’s time to act on it – hot air rises meaning the higher your bed is, the hotter it will be. If you’re in a double story house, try moving your bedroom onto the ground floor, or even your mattress just onto your bedroom floor for the night.

The one time you’ll want cold feet

Your toes are waaaaay more sensitive to the cold & heat than you probably realise, and a quick fix for that is dipping them in cold water. Just before you hit the hay, stand in a tub of icy cold water – it’ll cool your entire body temperature down and help you to forget how hot it actually is.

So rest assured, no matter how awful the weather gets you’ll be able to cool down. If all you’re wanting is a cooler sleep, why not check out the Koala mattress? Designed to deal exclusively with the heat, it’s breathable and the perfection addition to any Aussie household.
